Finding Joy

The unexpected can be as easy as changing your perspective.


I’m guessing that you have felt disappointed when something you were counting on didn’t go the way you had planned. For me this has most often happened when the weather interfered with my plans. Even if it was just to meet a friend for lunch that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Fortunately, my disappointment only lasts a short time because on a spirit level, there was a deeper reason for my plans not working out besides the weather or my friend having to cancel last minute.

Our spirit guides are often instrumental in making sure what we had planned didn’t happen at that time or on that date. This a cause for joy. They assure us that there’s a better time in the future to reschedule those plans or maybe not to happen at all. But, finding the joy is likely the last thing on your mind when something you really wanted falls apart. When plans change, disappointment is a kind of default mode that we go into. It’s a soul thing. Whether you realize it or not, we all have past lives where the consequences of unwanted changes were grim.


When we encounter change in this life, especially at the last moment, the soul will look back to the past for a frame of reference. If your soul finds hardship and misery were the result of life going amiss, it will urge your conscious self to dig its heels in and stick to the plan. If you can’t, you’ll feel your soul’s emotions bubbling up.



The result of a past life incident.


There’s a particular past-life fear that will often come to the surface at times. It’s a fear of the loss of control. This is the result of losing control of your mind or body in a past life.



Maybe you bled out on a battlefield 200 years ago, or your cognitive ability suffered from the effects of dementia or Alzheimer’s. This can show up in this lifetime as a need to feel in control.


Has anyone ever said you’re a control freak?  Well, chances are you’ve got a past-life fear of loss of control. In addition, if you feel the need to always (or almost always) be right, chances are this to is connected to a past life as well. If an older sibling gave you a hard time while you were growing up (as in my case) about him/her always being right, changes are it was much more than a sibling thing. But instead, a soul connection from a past life you shared together. Maybe the roles were reversed and it's time to learn to let go of your control issue. For me it was a tough lesson, but I get it.


Who needs to be in control?


Have you ever surprised someone with a last minute change in plans? Maybe you thought the change would be more fun. For example, you got some last minute concert tickets when your friend thought you were going to see a movie. Then your friend just fell apart at the last minute change of plans. It’s possible your friend has a past life fear of lack of control when his/her equilibrium was drastically changed. In the end you both have a great time at the concert, but in the future, no sudden surprises for this friend.

Finding Joy

We all know that life doesn’t always work out as we planned it. No matter what kind of curveball life throws at you, finding joy in change is always possible. The key is recognizing that you have the free will it takes to roll with the punches.




***You may not be able to control change itself, but you can always control how you deal with it.


There are times when the change that comes your way is unwelcome. For example: If you get fired a week before Christmas, then you can be forgiven for not immediately finding joy in your situation. Those past-life fears are triggered and it’s very easy to slip into a place of powerlessness. Though the changes you encounter may be unpleasant, you’re never totally a victim of circumstance.


There's always a choice.


When facing the unexpected, you always have a choice in how to move forward. If you feel fear bubbling up, take a moment to recognize it for what it is, and ask yourself if things really are as bad as your worst fears make you think? This is a way to speak to your past lives.


Look back on your life at the times when one door has closed, only for another one to open up soon after. Could this be another of those occasions? Then ask yourself what options you have. Make a list of four of five to begin with.




Ask yourself what you can do right away to alter your path. Everyone has a life plan, but it’s not

carved in stone. Your life plan acts as a map or guide to help you follow the path your soul created for you before you were born. But it always allows for free will. You always have the power to adjust or rewrite it.



Whatever the circumstances, no growth can come about if you fall into a place of gloomy defeat. Finding joy becomes easy when you work to make that perspective your default mode.


Empowerment begins with a shift in attitude and a new course of action.
